The Sound of Our Time – 1969

Released in 1969 Dave Laing’s book “The Sound of Our Time’ was one of the first books to attempt to provide a serious analysis on the workings and uses of the new pop music. Laing understood that the new pop/rock sounds reverberated with meaning and depth, that they spoke specifically to the teenage listeners who recognised within both the song words and sounds aspects of their own lives – lives lived out against a rapidly changing cultural backdrop.
